An automatic passenger elevator is a modern vertical transport system designed to move people efficiently between floors in residential, commercial, or public buildings. The term automatic refers to the elevator’s door operation and control system — doors open and close automatically, and passengers select their destination using push buttons or a touchscreen panel without needing a human operator.
These elevators are powered by either traction systems (using cables and counterweights) or hydraulic systems (fluid-driven). Traction elevators are more common in high-rise buildings, while hydraulic elevators are suitable for low- to mid-rise structures. Automatic elevators come equipped with microprocessor-based control panels, enabling features like floor memory, group control, and fault detection.
