A lift with an Automatic Rescue Device (ARD) is an advanced safety feature designed to enhance passenger security during power failures. The ARD ensures that, in the event of a power outage, the elevator safely moves to the nearest floor and opens its doors to allow passengers to exit, preventing entrapment. This system operates using a backup power source, typically a battery or UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply), which activates automatically when the main power is lost.
The ARD continuously monitors the lift’s power status and positioning. Once it detects a power failure, it overrides the normal control system to bring the lift car to the nearest landing, ensuring it stops accurately at floor level. After the doors open and passengers exit, the system enters standby mode until power is restored.
