A residential passenger lift is a compact elevator system designed to transport people vertically within a private home or low-rise residential building. It enhances mobility, especially for elderly individuals, people with disabilities, or families with young children, providing a safe and convenient alternative to stairs.
Unlike commercial elevators, residential lifts are typically smaller in size, quieter in operation, and designed to blend aesthetically with home interiors. They usually carry 2 to 6 passengers and travel up to 4–5 floors. These lifts can be installed indoors or outdoors and are available in various drive systems, such as hydraulic, traction, or machine-room-less (MRL) configurations.
